Hindu religion is the richest religion with respect to values, customs & traditions. Customs and rituals are transferred from one generation to another which enhances the integrity of Hindu religion. Hindu religion is well known all over the world for its mysterious methodology and colorful festival celebration.

In Hindu families, parents inculcate “Sanskars” in their children since birth. Hindu religion have rich & royal heritage, tinted with vivid colors of cultures, values, customs, traditions, believe etc.

In Hindu religion, parents start searching for life partner for their wards when they are of marriageable age. They shortlist some prospects, then cross check the family background of groom, education qualification, earning, own/rented house etc or verify the family background of bride, educational qualification, beauty etc of bride. Hindu religion followers believe in horoscope match and kundli milan. After verification, families, bride & groom meet to know more about each other. If every thing suits then bride & groom are engaged and marriage is fixed and date of wedding is taken after consulting the priest/ pandit.

Mangalsutras are also differently designed in different communities.

For example, the Tamilians wear the taali, an extraordinarily crafted pendant, the Maharashtrians swear by the black and gold beads with the double ‘vati’ pendant, one ‘vati’ standing for the bride’s parents’ home and the other for her husband’s. The Kannadigas add corals while the Gujaratis and Marwaris often go for a diamond pendant. The Kashmiri Pandits wear an unusual mangalsutra that goes through the ears!

Historically, the custom of tying a ‘mangalsutra’, the auspicious emblem or cord, on the wedding day, appears to have become popular only after the 6th century AD.

Before this, a yellow protective cord known as ‘kankanabandhana’ was tied around the wrists of the bride and the groom to signal the commitment to marriage.

The ‘talis’ of the Brahmins are the simplest, while those of the non-Brahmins are often complex, stylised works of art. Forms and patterns for ‘talis’ are often derived from nature, using symbols like flowers, buds, leaves, trees and so on.

The black beads in the mangalsutra are believed to ward off the evil eye, while corals are worn for fertility…http://www.sitagita.com/view.asp?id=8135

toos have a long history of use in eastern cultures, particularly in the sub continent, Arabia and North Africa, but why is henna so popular today? Some would say that it is simply a fashion trend inspired by celebrities such as Madonna, Liv Tyler, Demi Moore and Prince. Seeing Madonna with henna tattoos on her hands in her video for ‘Frozen’ certainly gave henna more exposure to the media. It became a much talked about style of body decoration, and as a result interest in this traditional art form was ignited, spawning a great deal of promotion on television and in glossy magazines.

One cannot wholly attribute the popularity of henna to those celebrities alone. Henna is still used in eastern cultures and it was only probably a matter of time before these practices became more accessible in today’s multicultural society.

Mehndi, which is a far more traditional name for henna, celebrates the hands as a miracle of creation and a vehicle of love. It focuses our attention on the sacred nature of the hands activities. Here instrument in turn becomes canvas. From the hand to the hand the henna flows a deep red into patterns of personal meaning, defined by and redefining traditions.

Mehndi is a unique form of painting because it is not only honourable but also requires contact. Human touch, itself a medium of expression, it adds another dynamic dimension to this work.

It is a fundamental human trait to use the skin as a canvas for artistic expression. To decorate one’s body is the most pertinent expression of individuality and creativity that is available, be it permanent or not.

Tattooing as an art form on the skin has been practiced for many thousands of years. Today it is constantly growing in popularity, as are all forms of body decoration and adornment, such as piercing various parts of the anatomy.

Page 2

The history and origins of the use of henna are hard to trace. With centuries of migration and cultural interaction, it is difficult to determine which culture and people started using henna first. There is archaeological evidence to suggest that the ancient Egyptians used henna to colour their nails, hair and even their beards, as traces of these have been found on the nails and hair of mummified pharaohs.

Whatever the case, it is clear that henna has been used by many different cultures for many centuries.

Once the use of henna as a form of body decoration became more widespread, it developed in its cultural importance and was included in many aspects of daily, spiritual and ceremonial life. As its popularity grew so to did the diversity of designs, application methods and recipes.

Another attraction of henna tattoos is that they are temporary. You can try out different styles and designs without them being permanent or painful, unlike real tattoos.

As we all know that fashion changes rapidly, and what is in vogue today may well be out of date tomorrow. With henna you can change your designs as your taste and fashion demands.

Ben Spence asked:

The desire to go beyond traditional wedding venues, such as homes, halls or hotels has made beach weddings the venue of choice for a growing number of couples around the world. And one big advantage of having a beach wedding is that it is one of the most inexpensive, yet romantic venues that a couple could have. The other advantage of beach weddings is that a couple can save a lot of money in terms of clothes, jewellery, etc. as casual or beachwear for the bridal couple is acceptable attire for such a venue, although this may not be the rule.

The reason why beach weddings have grown in popularity, over the past few decades, is because of the beautiful, romantic and panoramic vistas that such a venue offers. After all, who could resist a wedding back-drop that is provided free by nature – golden sand, swaying green palms, blue waters, an endless sky and exquisite sunsets? Beach weddings can be held at anytime of day or night and still have incomparable, appeal. Sunrise, midday or at sunset are all great times for beach weddings and equally beautiful is the sound of the waves with a star-studded, sky at night. These are factors that make a beach such a versatile venue.

As beach weddings are still growing in popularity, beachside Resorts and Hotels now offer attractive wedding packages to suit various budgets and requirements. Many resorts and hotels have professional, wedding planning groups who take care of all arrangements and pay particular attention to detail when planning beach weddings. Today, most beach wedding packages include beach décor, open-air, buffet catering, live entertainment and attractive honeymoon facilities. In this manner, couples can relax and have time to attend to other things without stress whatsoever.

One of the biggest rewards, and the sense of achievement that couples experience, is the appreciation they receive from guests. This is but natural, as just about anybody would, for a change, just love to leave the rigors of formal etiquette, attire and tradition, while shedding their inhibitions and letting their hair down to revel in an ambiance without compare.

The beach is also flexible enough as a venue to organize theme-orientated, beach weddings. As such, weddings with Hawaiian, Caribbean, Far Eastern and other exotic themes are becoming extremely popular. Beach weddings needn’t be extravagant or big in terms of the number of invitees, space and décor that a traditional venue would demand. The savings that accrue from beach weddings can be utilized for travel expenses or the cost of a popular, exotic location. When planning your beach wedding, it would be a good idea to study different beach destination brochures, as well as the numerous packages on offer for beach weddings. You can also go online to get enough information to make your final choice and allocate the relevant budget. If you have the advantage of a scenic beach location, not too far from where you and your partner decide, it will be an added advantage not only to you but also to close relatives and friends who would otherwise need to travel to a destination much further. Either way, if you’ve decided to have a beach wedding, you will be joining millions of couples who have enjoyed the romance, thrills and scenic beauty of a beach wedding.

Lilia Parker asked:

lanning to get married? Looking for exclusive ideas for wedding day? Search no more: I will share with you innovative fantastic ideas to make your wedding stand out and be remembered for years to come!

If you want to have a wedding that is truly out of this world, it is actually very simple to achieve! “How?” I hear you ask. Well, all you need to do is to have an alternative style of dress, or to replace the usual Meldenson march with something a little more passionate, such as hard rock music for example! All invited to your wedding will be surprised and it will make your wedding truly unforgettable. If, however, you think that hard rock music is a little too much to bear, then how about putting on one of your favourite songs that is also original and lively?

We conducted a painstaking amount of research into the subject of weddings and uncovered several marriage ceremonies that you could call ‘out of the ordinary’. These ceremonies are famous throughout the world for their extravagance and significance. We found ‘wild’ weddings, ‘fairytale’ weddings, ‘ethnic-style’ weddings, ‘exotic’ weddings, ‘retro’ weddings or even ‘time-machine’ wedding and, last but not least, ‘art-style’ weddings. In the next few paragraphs, we will take you on a guided tour of these weddings and give you a report on the types of weddings that are out there for you to enjoy.

Wild weddings

We shall begin with the ‘wild’ wedding. This type of wedding requires you to be extremely brave, to cast away your inhibitions and to simply revel in the rush of adrenaline. The ‘wild’ wedding really does lives up to its name – it is so flamboyant and extreme! If you want your wedding to be in this style, you need bags of energy to be able to really let off steam and to party!

To be specific, a ‘wild’ wedding is not a standard marriage ceremony; it is an exuberant fantasy which brings with it a tide of pleasure. So, how does one achieve a wedding such as this? Well, you need to think about how you can make alterations to the typical wedding scenario. In place of a bouquet you could carry a wreath, for example, you could wear Gothic attire instead of a wedding dress or hire unusual transport like a fast, sports car. How about organising a banquet on a quiet country lane or in a surgery? You could add to the fantasy of the occasion by incorporating alternative pranks into the ceremony. For two whole days you and your guests will be kept amused! At the end of the day, a ‘wild’ wedding needs to do what it says on the tin – be wild! The idea of fantasy is to know no boundaries or inhibitions! Use this as a basis for your own ‘wild’ wedding!

Fairytale weddings

The next type of alternative wedding is the ‘fairytale’ wedding. As you can probably guess, dear readers, fairytale weddings are weddings that, yes you guessed it, are based on fairytales! Fairytale weddings are typically based on fairytales such as “Cinderella” or “Sleeping Beauty.” The dresses will be reminiscent of fairytale dresses and the heroes of the fairytales will always be present at your ceremony. These heroes of the stories make for wonderful entourage. If you choose to be a Cinderella on your big day, then you will need a fairy godmother, a king and even some ugly sisters! Of course, you must have a wicked stepmother too. The crux of the occasion is the Ball, to which you will invite your ‘handsome prince’ – the groom. The celebrations end at midnight at which time a pumpkin-style carriage will draw up and whisk you away!

Ethnic weddings

The next type of wedding is the ‘ethnic-style’ wedding. ‘Ethnic style’ essentially means national style. Ok, so what does this mean you ask yourselves? Put simply, if you choose to have a wedding in ethnic style, then the guests, the groom, the bride and the caterers must all be dressed in national costume. The entertainment at this type of wedding is in the form of rituals, customs and observations of traditional, national ways. Revive old traditions from food to old elegant clothing. This ancient atmosphere will create time-machine wonders – it will take you and your guests centuries back; as though you were one of your ancestors! The ideas for a ethnic wedding can be derived from customs of your motherland as well as from traditions of another country that you are fond of. Whichever you choose, you will feel like a true national!

Exotic weddings

The next type of alternative wedding is the ‘exotic’ wedding. An ‘exotic’ wedding is similar to a wild wedding. But where at the wild wedding you can be elaborate with your dreams, at an exotic wedding you can incorporate your hobbies. If you love parachute jumping, then go ahead! If you like motorcycles, then no problem! Tie some tins-cans to a Vampire and off you go! Just make sure you have a courtege for the motorcycles. The bride can be dressed in white leathers with a bandana on her head in place of a veil. The groom can wear tight-fitting, black trousers instead of a morning suit and a necktie. A bride and groom on a motorcycle with tin-cans attached to the back, What a sight to behold!

Underwater weddings

Have you ever heard of an underwater wedding? Well, this style of wedding is a type of exotic wedding! The couple’s first kiss is underwater as well as the exchanging of the rings and even the signing of the register! To make the occasion even more exotic, you could have the ceremony on a desert island. Although whether you can call it a desert island after you have planned your wedding on it remains to be seen!

Retro weddings

The next alternative wedding is the ‘retro-style’ wedding. This style is in keeping with the period of the ’60s to the ’90s. What can we say about this type of wedding? Well, the traditions, the music and the attire all are reminiscent of this period. The bride and the groom wear clothing that is typical of the time and the music and customs also conform to the period. Classic, ethnic and beautiful styles are all characteristic of ‘retro style.’

Body-paintings: art-style wedding

The final, alternative-style wedding is the ‘art-style’ wedding. If you know anything about art-style, then you will realise that if you have this type of wedding, you don’t just need to be brave, you need to be VERY brave! Art-style involves decorating the body with special paints. Art style is contemporary in its design. The wedding attire consists of very unusual body paintings that can be almost anything depends on your taste and fantasy. Just imagine!

Eastern Touch

Influenced by an eastern tradition called mehendi to decorate bride’s palms, feet. In Western variations it expands to back and shoulders. Imagine, a bride, with beautifully decorated hands, feet, shoulders and back, wearing open wedding clothes to demonstrate this artistic design.

Of course, to have this type of wedding it is also extreme. It is a very amusing way to enjoy the wedding. To put it simply, if you are a creative person who is not afraid of anything and anyone, then why not go for it?

A Nutt asked:

Your wedding is supposed to be one of the most important and special days of your entire life. Generally, weddings are highly anticipated and planned months or even years in advance. Much care is taken to ensure that every single detail is just right. From the decorations and flowers, to the music, wedding vows, food and cake – every bride wants everything to be perfect. There are many time-honored traditions that are generally observed (or at least considered) in the wedding planning process. Some of these are very important, (such as the exchanging of vows and wedding bands) and others are more lighthearted – such as the tossing of the bride’s bouquet. Whether you are superstitious or not, some of the more lighthearted wedding traditions may appeal to you. Below is a brief overview of some of the most commonly known wedding superstitions.

The Weather

There are conflicting superstitions from different parts of the world regarding the weather on your wedding day. Some say that a rainy wedding day is actually good luck. Others claim that rain on your wedding day signifies that you will shed many tears throughout your married life. A sunny day symbolizes warmth and happiness in marriage.

The Decorations

Candles are used as decorations in many weddings. Lit candles that go out are rumored to signify that evil spirits are close. Flowers are also very commonly used in weddings. It is customary for the groom to wear a flower from the bridal bouquet in his coat’s button-hole. This dates back to Medieval times, when a knight would wear his Lady’s colours as a declaration of his devotion. Flowers have different meanings, and it is good luck to choose flowers that have special symbolism for the bride and groom.

The Dress

A white wedding gown is said to symbolize chastity or virginity. In some cultures this superstition holds true. However, another theory is that in the old days, white cloth was very expensive. Bleaching the cloth to white cost a lot of money, and therefore white signified the very best. Back then, the whiter the bride’s dress – the more wealthy the bride’s family was. Another superstition related to the actual wedding dress involves death! It is said that if the bride’s wedding gown rips the day before the wedding, the marriage will end in death.

The Flower Girl

Ever wonder why so many rose petals are strewn about by the flower girl? Not only is it cute, but it is setting the bride and groom up for a long and happy family life. The rose petals symbolize the bride and groom’s chances at having babies. The more rose petals – the more babies!

The Cake

In many cultures, the tradition is to save the uppermost, smallest layer of the wedding cake rather than serve it at the wedding. The cake is then wrapped in plastic wrap and paper towels in order to conserve it well, and it is then frozen. The wedding cake is left in the freezer until the happy couple’s first anniversary, when it is defrosted and enjoyed. The superstition says that eating the wedding cake on the first anniversary will bring back all the joy and magic of the wedding day.

Right After the Wedding

When the bride and groom exit the church after their wedding ceremony, it is customary for all the guests to toss handfuls of rice at them. This is another way of ensuring a long and fertile family life. The more grains of rice thrown, the more babies the couple will have. The noise made by the tin cans that are attached to the couple’s auto is intended to scare away evil spirits.

Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

Irish wedding toasts, Jewish wedding toasts, traditional wedding toasts. Why are they different and why do you find that more and more, they are cropping up in different weddings, Jewish, Irish or with a traditional slant? The reason for this is simple enough and is explained by two words: global village.

That’s right, the world is becoming a smaller place, and for this reason alone you will find Jewish wedding toasts cropping up in traditional weddings with not a Jewish bone in its body, and Irish wedding toasts cropping up not only at weddings, but also in popular culture such as books and movies.

To give a toast however, is no simple thing. Not everyone is comfortable with standing up in front of a gathered crowd of wedding guests and giving a toast. In fact many people will do just about everything that they can to not have to face the moment, stand up, get the attention of a whole room full of people, and have their say.

And if indeed they manage the miraculous feat of doing all of this, they might find themselves without a clear memory of what exactly it was that they said! This happens to most everyone who dreads public speaking. But sometimes a person might feel more pressured to deliver a good toast if they are well known by friends and family of the bridal couple, and this can cause problems.

If you know that you might be called upon to give a wedding toast, you might want to become familiar with a few wedding toasts, so that if ever the need arises you too can rise admirably and calmly to the occasion. To this end, you might want to take a look at a few Irish wedding toasts, traditional wedding toasts, and even some Jewish wedding toasts.

These can all come in handy when you least expect it to, and with at least one wedding toast of each type in your mind, you should have no worries on whether or not you can give a rousing good wedding toast.

Just remember that you are giving a wedding toast and not a wedding speech, so keep it short and simple. This is an especially good idea if you know that you are a poor public speaker.

But in truth whether you are at a Jewish wedding listening to or giving Jewish wedding toasts, or whether you are at an Hindu wedding, or whether you are attending your sister’s traditional white and orange blossomed wedding, you will find that the sentiments are the same, and that the toasts themselves all want only the same thing for the bride and the groom: long life and happiness.

Mae Andrea asked:

There is little doubt that the internet has revolutionized the world we live in. The way we work, shop & socialize have all changed in recent years & now wedding planning is getting in on the act.

Traditionally your RSVP’s would come in the form of mailed back response cards which you would have included with your invitations. Your wedding planning then saw you sifting through the many responses deciphering handwriting & trying to calculate exactly who is coming & who isn’t. But nowadays you can approach your RSVP’s in a completely different way, thanks to the world of cyberspace!

Having your RSVP’s handled online is a fairly new development in wedding planning but one which couple’s are getting to grips very quickly. So much so that the use of such a service has surged in popularity as couples find better & more efficient ways to organize their weddings. Unlike the traditional method of posting reply cards, online RSVP’s in an inexpensive method of collecting your guest’s replies & many of these online services will offer extra functions also.

But how do you go about setting up one of these RSVP sites? It so easy to set one up & you can find various sites offering free basic services or for a fee sites which will offer a more complete wedding website package. Which ever option you choose you can have it set up & running in minutes.

So what features can you expect from an online RSVP service?

Please note that not all sites will offer all of these features, so check what they do offer before signing up.

1) Multiple Events – You can collect replies for other events which you may be holding as part of your wedding celebrations. These could include Bridal Shower, bachelor/bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinner etc.

2) Print Capabilities – You can create your own lists of RSVP’s collected & customize them as you wish. These can then be handed out to people such as your wedding coordinator, caterer, wedding party members etc.

3) Downloadable Capabilities – You can create a spreadsheet of all your replies by downloading the information into a spreadsheet format or you can simply download it to any format you wish.

4) Live, Real-Time Data – You can be notified of RSVP’s as soon as your guests have submitted them. The beauty of the internet is the fast turnaround it offers & unlike the traditional method you won’t be waiting days on end for replies to drop the letterbox.

5) 24/7 Access to all Reports – You online RSVP service is available 24/7 so you can view it at any time of day or night. RSVP’s can be submitted at any time & you will be notified immediately, unlike the postal service which doesn’t run 24/7!

6) Share and Collect Additional Information – You can customize your site to collect other information from your guests such as dietary requirements, accommodation preferences, your gift registry & much more.

7) Meal Tracking – If you are offering a selection of dish choices for a sit down dinner, you can customize the site to collect your guests preferences as well. This is a great time saver as you can then submit these quickly to your caterer.

Auto Confirmation Email – After your guests have completed the acceptance or decline of your invitation & have entered their email address, they will receive a confirmation email confirming their response. This can be reassuring to many guests who will want to know that their RSVP has been delivered.
