Char Dham consisting of four sites namely Yamunatri, Gangotri, and Kedarnathand Badrinath holds unparalleled status amongst all Hindu pilgrimage. Situated at scenic locales of Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand previously known as Uttaranchal region of the Indian Himalayas. As the popular practice runs all the four uniquely important sites for pilgrimage are viewed together and it is called the revered Chardham yatra.

The temple city of Haridwar holds the gate way to the char dham. However, Rishikesh And Dehradun which is the capital city of Uttaranchal too provides access to them.

Yamunotri is the geographical source of the famous Indian river Yamuna but it holds high rank among pilgrims as it is believed to be the seat of goddess Yamuna.A full day has to be spent in order to reach here from Haridwar, Rishikesh Or Dehradun. But the real test lies in the six hour walk from Hanuman Chotti which is the last motorably accessibly place. The hot spring here is a geographical wonder and is used to cook Prasad out of rice. The next site is Gangotri, which is the source of the most important Indian River Ganga and is the dwelling place of goddess Ganga. Thus, it is listed high in both geographical and religious terms. It is connected by day’s journey from Haridwar, Rishikesh or Dehradun.Alternatively, it two day’s journey from Yamunotri. It is accessible by road and sees more visits by pilgrims than Yamunotri.Gomukh, which is the actual current source of the Ganga is 17km trek from here. An overnight stay holds a lot

more adventure.

Another two day’s journey from here leads one to heights of Kedarnath one of the most remotely accessible dham. It holds the dual importance for being associated with lord Shiva and is the site for Shankaracharya’s samadhi .The edifice is done in stone of unknown date .to reach here one has to undergo the peril of steep 13km walk. Though the entire region is beautiful beyond description but Kedarnath is unique. The last of the four is the Badrinath, which is away by two day’s journey from here.
