Why are American parties so lame (weddings, reunions, birthdays, batisms, etc.)?

Kanesh asked:
OK, the American ones I went to everyone was like BYOB and everyone was all worried about keeping up appearances.
Then I experienced a hispanic Catholic baptism and an Indian wedding. They went no holds barred on the food and music. Best food, caterers, DJ, drinks. Even the old people were cutting loose.
Why are we so stuck up at social functions.
OK, the American ones I went to are upper-middle class WASP Virginia. They just seem kinda lame for some reason.

Sounds like you haven’t been to the right events. Depends on what kind of social circle you are part of.
Um, my family is not…however we are from Italian decent so we always have the best food and wine.
When the wine starts flowing no one gives a damn about anything
Which type of Americans are you referring to? I’m all American and I’ve never experienced that.
By the way, how do you know that the Hispanic and Indian people you write about aren’t American? Do you not view them as American because they are not sterotypically white? Because I think that’s where you are going with this.
