My wife-to-be doesn’t like bitter wines. She isn’t a beer person and prefers wine coolers, especially strawberry diaquiries. I need some ideas about what the names of some excellent sweet wines are to get for our honeymoon.

well the Sauternes region in France produces some of the best sweet wines in the world.
if you want to spend alot of money you can get a Chateau d’Yquem from Sauternes, but really most wines from this region are good.

get a first growth sauternes. if price isn’t an issue then go for a bottle of chateau d’yquem, arguably the best wine in the world. depending on the vintage, it’ll probably cost you at least $400 or $500 per bottle, but if i could buy any sweet wine in the world, that’s what i would buy.

Find yourself a good, sweet mead. The word honeymoon comes from the old folk custom that if the couple drinks mead (which is made from honey) for the first month (moon) after their wedding, they’ll have a successful marriage.

If you’re looking for a really sweet (i.e. dessert) wine, you can’t go wrong with Canadian Icewine. There are many excellent producers from the Niagara region in Ontario, but one of my favourites is Inniskillin who, aside from the usual, make a gorgeous red icewine from Cabernet Franc and this past Christmas they had a sparkling icewine available, although there doesn’t seem to be any mention of it on their website. More info at

    Cheers!
