I don’t know about Indian weddings specifically but rice is thrown at Bride and Grooms all over the world. Rice is a sign of fertility.

so they have sumethin to munch on during the honeymoon
to kill off the birds. it’s a scientific fact, when birds eat the rice and then drink water, the rice expands and most often kills the bird. don’t know if that was the intent but it definitely kills the birds.
